The Epson Stylus SX400 offers the functions of three machines in one – Printer, scanner and photo copier. The overall look of the machine is good with a dark gray case, although I can see the glossy black lid being annoying because even the small smallest mark shown up on it and I would be forever polishing greasy little marks off. The control panel on the top of the device has an array of buttons for the copier function without being over complicated. The quality of the print output produced by the SX400 is hard to find fault with as whatever types of documents it prints the results are clear, sharp and full of rich vibrant colours. The scanning facility is also impressive with its 1200dpi maximum resolution capable of scanning anything from a basic drawing to high resolution photograph. The scan also comes with photo editing software for returning old tired photos to their former glory. The photo copier is one of the features of the SX400 which work without the need for a PC and produces copies with accurate representations of the original documents; speed and minimum effort require from the user. Epson SX400 ink cartridges are slightly different from its competitors as they consists of four cartridges, each of which can be changed independently therefore eliminating the problem of wasting printer ink when only one colour has run out. A set of genuine Epson inks will set you back around £30 which is average for a printer in this class, but if you want really value for money a set of compatibles only costs £15 and yields the same amount of pages.
